As you may be aware, from 1 July 2022 the way NHS health and care is arranged in England is changing. The aim is to help health and care organisations work in a more joined-up way to better meet the needs of local people.
We are creating a new ‘system’ where the many different local organisations and teams can work more closely together to improve health and care for the people of Sussex.
Our ambition is for is for every person living in Sussex to have access to the best health and care from the moment they are born and throughout their lives.
Part of the changes will be the establishment of NHS Sussex, which will oversee the local NHS, support the different NHS partners within it and make decisions on how money is best spent for our populations. You will sometimes hear this described as an Integrated Care Board (ICB).
This week we are publicly sharing our draft Constitution for the new NHS Sussex Integrated Care Board (ICB) which sets out the proposed governance arrangements that will be applied to the new Board when established on 1st July 2022.
A lot of work and engagement has already taken place across system partners and stakeholders to get the Constitution for NHS Sussex to this stage and I want to thank those of you who have already helped us shape its content and direction so far.
It is now important to provide everyone living in Sussex with an opportunity to comment and provide input on this draft Constitution to ensure that NHS Sussex has the governance and breadth of leadership to meet the needs of our communities and the population we serve, both now and into the future.
All public comments on our draft Constitution will be collated and considered so that a final version of the NHS Sussex Constitution can be formally submitted and agreed by the new Board at its first meeting in July.
In addition to the full draft Constitution, we have also produced a draft summary that highlights the key areas for ease of reference and a brief overview of the context to why the changes are being made. You can find these documents and leave your comments here https://www.sussexhealthandcare.uk/about-us/integrated-care-systems-integrated-care-boards/our-formal-new-ways-of-working/
The development of the Constitution for NHS Sussex is another significant step in our journey to provide better health and care for all across Sussex.
